•Large single crystals of GIS were synthesized by using DPA as organic template.•The quality and size of GIS are sensitive to crystallization conditions.•Molar Si/Al ratio has a pronounced effect on the size and structure of crystals.•Molar Zn/Al ratio also has a pronounced effect on the size and structure of crystals.•High HF content is favor to the synthesis of large single crystals.
We investigated the effects of gel composition and crystallization conditions on the hydrothermal synthesis of ZAPSO-43 single crystals in detail. Large single crystals of ZAPSO-43 (around 250 μm) with high quality were synthesized by optimizing the following synthesis conditions: crystallization temperature and duration, molar ratio of SiO2/Al2O3 and ZnO/Al2O3, content of HF acid and organic template dipropylamine (DPA). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurement show that the as-synthesized ZAPSO-43 are of Fddd symmetry with lattice constants a = 9.9985 Å, b = 14.2565 Å and c = 14.5726 Å, α = β = γ = 90° and their unit volume is V = 2077.22 Å3.
