Abstract
•Synthesis of TBD-functionalized mesoporous silica (MS).•SBA-16 and KIT-6 provide viable solid supports for guanidine immobilization.•New heterogeneous catalyst for vegetable oil transesterification.
Mesoporous silica has been functionalized with a strong organic base, 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene (TBD). The obtained high loading guanidine functionalized mesoporous SBA-16 and KIT-6 samples showed high activity in the transesterification of vegetable oil.
