Abstract
Using panel data of the Encuesta Nacional de Ocupación y Empleo (enoe) from the third quarter of 2008 (2008-III) to the third quarter of 2009 (2009-III), this paper constructs and analyzes labor trajectories during the economic crisis of 2008 in Mexico. For comparative purposes, we also use a panel in an economically stable period from 2006-III to 2007-III. Descriptive analysis shows that the Mexican labor market presents high mobility, especially between occupation and inactivity. Labor stability is related to higher quality employments, so instable trajectories can be seen as a form of vulnerability. Even those who remained employed during the crisis, experienced a process of precarization, through income reductions or loss of health coverage. In addition, crisis is associated with higher unemployment trajectories.
