•Glycidyl functionalized mesoporous silica (GSBA-15) reinforced cyanate ester (BCE) nanocomposites have been developed.•Low-k value of 2.11 for 15 wt.% loaded GSBA-15/BCE nanocomposites has been achieved.•Homogeneous and uniform dispersion of GSBA-15 in the BCE matrix has been ascertained from TEM analysis.•The GSBA-15/BCE nanocomposites developed in the work may find applications in the field of microelectronics.
A new synthetic approach has been used to develop glycidyl functionalized mesoporous silica (GSBA-15) reinforced cyanate ester nanocomposites. SBA-15 was functionalized using 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS). Varying weight percentages of GSBA-15 were used to reinforce the cyanate ester to develop nanocomposites. The formation of nanocomposites was confirmed using the FT-IR. Cyanate ester nanocomposites having higher weight percentage of GSBA-15 showed a lower dielectric (k = 2.11) constant and higher thermal properties than those of neat cyanate ester.
