Abstract
⺠European el-industry has met the climate challenge with four rivaling modernities. ⺠They are carbon modernity, nuclear modernity, supply and demand side ecomodernity. ⺠Europe has successfully facilitated green transition through three channels. ⺠They are green radicalism, institutional pluralism and multiple policy instruments. ⺠Europe has been a front-runner, but faces challenges mainstreaming sustainability.
