Abstract
⺠This paper applies a new approach to measuring energy poverty to rural and urban India. ⺠It also compares and contrasts income poverty with energy poverty in the context of India. ⺠Findings suggest that income poverty tracks energy poverty in urban India, but not in rural India. ⺠Income growth is very important in reducing energy poverty. ⺠In addition, access to and reliability of modern sources (electricity, LPG) are also helpful.
