Abstract
⺠It is shown how physical and economic values are combined in decomposition analysis. ⺠The advantages of isolating a materialisation effect are highlighted. ⺠A materialisation effect shows the influence of price on aggregate energy intensity. ⺠An efficiency effect provides a better indication of energy efficiency progress. ⺠Case studies are provided for industry in Ireland and Germany.
