Abstract
⺠We present a method to compare energy efficiency of appliances across countries. ⺠Cold appliances, washing machines and driers show improvement in energy efficiency. ⺠Part of this is due to increased capacity and not to lower energy consumption. ⺠Either minimum standards or energy labels result in increasing efficiencies. ⺠Policies should be based on product energy consumption and not only on efficiency.
