Abstract
⺠Reducing CO2 emissions by 80% of 1990 levels by 2050 is achievable in Japan. ⺠Feasible pathway is examined by the AIM/Backcasting Model based on backcasting methodology. ⺠Taking steps sooner will increase the likelihood of achieving a low-carbon society. ⺠Major investment will be needed in the early stage of the analytical periods. ⺠Viewed in the long term, this can be recovered by reduction in energy consumption.
