Abstract
This paper seeks to explore supply-side dynamics in the delivery of Mobile Money Services in Nigeria. Issues addressed include DFS enablers, constraints and resources capabilities. The study utilized a mixed method approach to investigate the resources deployed by Mobile Money Operators (MMOs). Data on supplier's assets, resources and capabilities were acquired through quantitative and quantitative methods using semi-structured interviews and surveys respectively. The result identified three major resource capabilities on the supply side. At the lowest level, physical capabilities such as finance, technology, people, and locations are more prevalent and dominant amongst DFS providers in Nigeria. Higher order capabilities such as human capital and strategic capabilities are nascent and somewhat underdeveloped. The study found that effort to transform an industry through disruptive technology may not translate to high adoption level and accompanying demand. An initiative cognizant of mandatory additional firm capabilities is required for successful business integration and scale-up.
