Abstract
This article discusses the processes of knowledge transfer from headquarters to subsidiaries practiced by traditional multinationals (triad countries composed of Europe, the USA and Japan) and emerging corporations (country of origin Brazil). The objective is to compare the mechanisms for transferring knowledge in these two groups. The research method is quantitative, using two surveys, one with 101 traditional multinationals established in Brazil, and another with 65 Brazilian multinational subsidiaries. The results show that the main mechanisms used by traditional multinationals to transfer knowledge from headquarters to subsidiaries are the best practices, while for the emergent multinationals they are the expatriated ones. As its contribution, this paper fills a gap amongst related studies comparing knowledge transfer in emerging multinationals and traditional ones.
