Abstract
Urban planning is one the most effective methods for minimizing the effects of aircraft noise around airports. However, people living in these areas may not have the opportunity or willingness to contribute to the critical mapping of the impacted area. The noise contours are based on mathematical models and do not represent the real boundary of the annoyance. This study analyzes the use of Public Participatory Geographic Information System as a tool to include citizens in the discussion through a web-based system. The results show that the system is efficient and can involve more people in the urban planning process regarding the impacted noise area.
