Abstract
Development of high temperature phosphors for sensor coatings is of current interest for a number of technology sectors. Significant advances in production of high temperature sensing thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) have been made in recent years. However, there is still a requirement to modify existing TBC systems to incorporate a phosphor component. In this work we report on the development of a composite material consisting of an active phosphor, Y3Al5O12: Dy, distributed within a YSZ matrix. The luminescence performance and lifetime decay of the composite material extends to 1200 °C. We also find that the composite spectrum is composed of characteristic YAG and YSZ components.
