•Two new Schiff bases were used for the distinct detection of Al3+.•The probe was exploited at physiological pH for environmental and biological samples.
Two new Schiff base receptors 1 and 2 have been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, HRMS and 1H NMR spectroscopic techniques. Both the receptors show large fluorescence enhancement after addition of Al3+ which is recognized by calorimetry. Furthermore, the stability constant and the detection limit of the receptor–Al3+ complex were found to be 1.41 × 104 M−1 and 1.59 × 104 M−1; and 4.79 × 10−8 M and 8.28 × 10−8 M for receptors 1 and 2 respectively, concluded through the titration method. Not only this, the synthesized receptors work glowing in physiological pH range. Thus these receptors could be employed for the estimation of Al3+ qualitative as well as quantitative.
