Abstract
⺠The thickness of membrane around an inclusion is calculated from continuum theory. ⺠A length scale for the perturbation is expressed in terms of material constants. ⺠We show that the perturbation decays as a damped oscillation. ⺠The line tension for inserting a membrane protein is calculated. ⺠Results are verified against molecular simulations.
