Abstract
Polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based mesoporous carbons are obtained using mesoporous silica as a template. The resulting material is highly porous with pores in the mesopore range. The extremely thin pore walls consist of the PAN-based carbon. The surface functionality of the materials has been investigated by XPS studies, showing the development of the functional groups with temperature.
