Abstract
⺠Ionic liquids are investigated as solvents for Bunsen reaction. ⺠Co-extraction of H2O and HI into ionic liquid occurs. ⺠[Tf2N]â ionic liquids showed most promise with 20% HI extracted. ⺠Ionic liquids tested succumb to ion exchange mechanism and so are not suitable. ⺠Properties can be tailored by choice of anion/cation so further work is needed.
