Abstract
A simple method is presented for determining the oxidation states of transition metal centers using Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) theory. We probed both “straightforward” and “ambiguous” cases (where a strong Ï-acid, CO, was a ligand). The scope of the method is described, along with promising future applications.61
