A ruthenium polypyridyl complex with the antihypertensive drug valsartan: Synthesis, theoretical calculations and interaction studies with human serum albumin

The new complex [Ru(val)(bpy)(terpy)]PF6 (val = valsartan, an antihypertensive drug of sartan family) was synthesized without drug degradation, characterized and studied by DFT calculations. Interaction with human serum albumin suggests that hydrophobic interactions predominate. Other ruthenium polypyridyl complexes containing drugs of sartan family could be prepared using the described methodology.80
