Synthesis, characterization and crystal structure of a Pd(II) complex containing a new bis-1,2,4-triazole ligand: A new precursor for the preparation of Pd(0) nanoparticles

The reaction of 5,5′-(1,3-phenylenebis(methylene))bis(sulfanediyl)bis(3-methyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-amine) (L1) with palladium(II) chloride in a molar ratio 2:1 in methanol/acetonitrile under reflux conditions led to the complex [Pd(L1)2]Cl2.4CH3CN (1). Solventless thermolysis of complex 1 at different temperatures in air, which led to the formation of Pd(0)-, Pd-PdO-, PdO- and Pd-PdO- nanostructures is reported.
