Abstract
The interaction of DNA with [Y(bpy)(OH2)6]+3, where bpy is 2,2â²-bipyridine has been studied. Fluorescence and absorption spectroscopy, agarose gel electrophoresis as well as EB quenching experiments are used to study DNA binding of the complex. The results reveal that DNA have strong ability to bind with Y(III) complex. Electronic structure of [Y(bpy)(OH2)6]+3 was also carried out applying the density functional theory (DFT) method and applied to explain some obtained experimental observations.
