Abstract
FT-IR spectroscopic measurements have been employed to investigate the structural changes in quaternary xBi2O3-15 Na2O-(70 â x) B2O3-15 SiO2 glass system with x = 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 (mol%). The effect of gamma irradiation in the dose range of 0.1-60 kGy on the infrared absorption spectra of these glasses is also reported. The IR spectra of the prepared samples show characteristic bands related to the sharing of triangular and tetrahedral borate and silicate groups together with Bi-O groups. The effect of the heavy metal oxide Bi2O3 on the glass composition is also studied.
