Synthesis, crystal structure and in vitro antibacterial activity of 2,3a,8b-trihydroxy-3-(thiophen-2-ylcarbonyl)-2-(trifluoromethyl)-2,3,3a,8b-tetrahydro-4H-indeno[1,2-b]furan-4-one

This work reports the synthesis and characterization of 2,3a,8b-trihydroxy-3-(thiophen-2-ylcarbonyl)-2-(trifluoromethyl)-2,3,3a,8b-tetrahydro-4H-indeno[1,2-b]furan-4-one. The compound was characterized by elemental analysis, IR, NMR and HREIMS spectra. The solid state structure of the title compound was established by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure adopts triclinic space group P-1, and stabilized by intermolecular non-covalent interactions. The intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions, CH⋯FC and OH⋯OC, connect the molecules into a layered network structure. The compound showed broad spectrum (in vitro) activity against nine strains of Gram positive and four strains of Gram negative bacteria.
