Effect of composition on the short-term and long-term dissolution rates of ten borosilicate glasses of increasing complexity from 3 to 30 oxides

► We compare short-term and long-term leaching of ten borosilicate glasses. ► Initial rate is related to structural and thermodynamic parameters of the glass. ► Ca plays a major role on the long-term rate. ► Synergic effect between Ca and Al or Zr strongly increases the glass durability. ► Precipitation of silicate minerals diminishes the glass durability.
