Abstract

Al doped LiMn2O4 (LMO) cathode material for lithium ion battery was synthesized using two different Mn-precursors through solid-state sintering process. Spherical LMO was synthesized from Al-doped chemically-coprecipitated manganese oxide (CMO), and flake-type LMO was prepared from electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD). To compare their difference, the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), inductive coupled plasma emission spectrometer (ICP) and fabricated into prismatic battery to investigate their physical and electrochemical properties. The results show that no impurities phase exist in the products. The powder from CMO displays a good sphericity, a higher tap density, and better electrochemical properties.
