Abstract
We study the branching of soft gluons in the presence of a dense QCD medium. We consider the regime where the typical duration of a branching process is much smaller than the length of the medium. We show that the newly born gluons decohere quickly from each other, over a time interval of the order of the branching time. As a consequence, the branching process can be treated as quasi-instantaneous as compared to the time scale of the independent propagation of the produced gluons. This leads to a classical probabilistic picture of in-medium multiple gluon branchings.
