Abstract
We present the MC studies of the CMS collaboration for early QCD measurements with high transverse momentum jets and preliminary results with beam data. With the enormous QCD cross section, a small amount of data (â¼1pbâ1) from the first LHC p-p collisions will allow a reach in transverse momentum far beyond previous experiments. The studies with early beam data include the measurements of the inclusive jet and di-jet cross sections, as well as the dijet polar and azimuthal angular distributions. The presentation will cover the analysis techniques, dominant systematic uncertainties, comparisons to QCD predictions, and sensitivity to physics processes beyond the Standard Model (SM). Various comparisons on the jet properties in early CMS data to Monte Carlo simulations will also be shown.
