Abstract
- UDP-galactopyranose mutases (UGMs) are flavin-dependent enzymes.
- Recombinant UGMs from L. infantum and L. mexicana have been characterized.
- The enzymes are active only when the flavin is reduced.
- NADPH is the preferred redox partner.
- Changes in flavin spectra suggest the formation of a flavin-iminium ion.
