Abstract
⺠Cells require enzymes to degrade both endogenous and exogenous hydrogen peroxide. ⺠Bacteria contain multiple apparent scavengers that vary in structure and mechanism. ⺠Catalase and Ahp are the only such enzymes whose in vivo function is unambiguous. ⺠The physiological roles of other putative peroxidases remain uncertain.
