Abstract
⺠The protective effect of amifostine on different regions of the brain were studied. ⺠Radiation caused degradation of tissue lipids as a result of lipid peroxidation. ⺠Amifostine inhibited the radiation-induced damage on the brain lipids. ⺠FTIR microspectroscopy provides a sensitive monitoring of the lipid peroxidation. ⺠The FTIR ratio images can be used to detect the lipid peroxidation in a tissue.
