Abstract
Toxin GhoT reduces ATP and PMF by forming a transient transmembrane aggregate that allows water to permeate through lipid membranes. Pink lines: 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine lipid tails, yellow spheres: lipid head groups, transparent blue spheres: water, solid blue spheres: water inside the transmembrane aggregate, thick brown, pink, and purple lines: peptides that are part of the transmembrane trimer.622
