Abstract
⺠ABC cholesterol transporters are differentially expressed in neurons and astroglia. ⺠ABCA1/ABCG1 induction increases cholesterol efflux from glia but not from neurons. ⺠ABCA1 silencing and inhibition reduce cholesterol efflux from glia but not neurons. ⺠ABCG1 silencing inhibits cholesterol efflux from astrocytes but not from neurons. ⺠ABCG4 silencing reduces cholesterol efflux from neurons but not from astrocytes.
