Abstract
► Inhibition of 5-LOX triggers apoptosis in prostate cancer cells. ► Apoptosis involves annexin V binding, PARP-cleavage, and degradation of DNA. ► Apoptosis is associated with inhibition of PKC-epsilon, a known oncogene. ► Inhibition of PKC-epsilon and induction of apoptosis are prevented by 5-oxoETE. ► Metabolites of 5-LOX may promote prostate cancer cell survival via PKC-epsilon.
