Abstract
⺠We developed a method that allows for analysis of PON-1 enzymatic activity in HDL subclasses. ⺠It employs polyacrylamide gradient gels and phenylacetate as substrate with detection of product of coupled reaction. ⺠At the same HDL-C level, healthy subjects display a large difference in the ratio of PON-1 activity in small vs. large HDL. ⺠We propose that this difference has a potent predictive value for clinical risk assessment and therapeutic choice.
