Abstract
► HDL antiatherogenic effects would depend on its concentration and its functionality. ► Cardiovascular risk is increased after menopause, however, HDL does not decrease. ► HDL from postmenopausal women was a poor substrate for hepatic lipase. ► Reduced catabolism of HDL would impair cholesterol reverse transport efficiency.
