Abstract
⺠IL-1 family has a central role in regulation of immune and inflammatory responses. ⺠IL-1 regulates basic metabolic rate, blood glucose levels, blood pressure etc. ⺠IL-1 family consists of both pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines. ⺠IL-1 impairs insulin secretion and induces β-cell apoptosis leading to T2D. ⺠IL-1 gene polymorphisms are T2D susceptibility indicators in different populations.
