Abstract
⺠Ethylene glycol poisoning is a medical emergency. ⺠Toxicity is caused by the metabolites, glycolic and oxalic acids. ⺠Effective treatment is available if administered timely. ⺠Measurement of serum ethylene glycol and glycolic acid establishes the diagnosis and that for glycolic acid is prognostic. ⺠Methods of measurement for ethylene glycol and glycolic acid, including surrogate measures, are reviewed.
