Abstract
⺠Neither pro-PCT nor CRP is useful for ruling out bacterial infections in febrile patients admitted to a General Internal Medicine ward. ⺠Pro-PCT is significantly higher in patients with infectious fever than in patients with inflammatory fever. ⺠Both pro-PCT and CRP levels are significantly higher in patients with bacterial infections than in patients with viral infections.
