Abstract
⺠In this study circulating levels of soluble CD40 ligand, soluble P-selectin and von Willebrand factor were investigated in subjects with prediabetes. Effects of presence or absence of the metabolic syndrome on these markers were also investigated. ⺠The prediabetic subjects and healthy controls had similar soluble CD40 ligand, soluble P-selectin and von Willebrand factor levels. However, prediabetics with the metabolic syndrome had significantly higher levels of soluble CD40 ligand compared to those without the metabolic syndrome. ⺠These data imply that metabolic syndrome may, at least in part, be an important contributor of the platelet activation and endothelial function in prediabetes.
