Abstract
► Highly regioselective amphiprotic chitosan derivative was achieved. ► Click chemistry was applied for regioselective modification. ► The amphiprotic chitosan derivative was soluble under both acidic and basic condition. ► The amphiprotic derivative formed nanoparticle under neutral condition.
