Abstract
A single exposure to supraphysiological and subhemolytic shear significantly decreased the electrochemical charge of the RBC membrane, concurrently increasing cell aggregation/aggregability. The cascading implications of hyperaggregation appears to potentially explain the ischemia-associated complications commonly reported following mechanical circulatory support.
