Abstract
Bilateral lesions in nucleus accumbens did not change the alcohol intake in two bottle choice test. But they showed increased water intake in two bottle choice suggesting increased thirst. The alcohol intake increases only when there is no water provided, suggesting the pivotal role of this centre in ingestive behaviour.
