Abstract
Our results indicate that LDL cholesterol is highly responsive to an infant's diet. In our study we observed an increase of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol in the first 6 months of life. LDL cholesterol levels decreased when breastfeeding was exchanged for formula-feeding. Insulin concentrations and the prevalence of insulin resistance were lower in breast-fed than in formula-fed infants.
