Abstract
Prevalence of overweight and obesity among schoolchildren living in Bialystok area is higher than that reported from other regions of Poland. However Polish national diagnostic criteria, based on BMI, underestimate the prevalence of overweight compared to IOTF criteria. The discrepancy may lead to misdiagnosis of individuals being at future risk of obesity, thus there is a need for a revision of Polish BMI reference for children.
