Abstract
The mature cystic teratoma is one of the most common ovarian tumours. The ovarian torsion of a teratoma is a rare cause of acute abdominal pain. Puerperium is a period in which the uterine ligament laxity predisposes to the ovarian torsion. The clinical presentation of an ovarian torsion and other disorders associated with the puerperium, is quite similar. We should pay special attention to postpartum women with acute abdominal pain. Imaging techniques are essential in the diagnosis of this disease. The treatment of choice is surgical and involves the resection of the teratoma and conservation of the rest of the annex.
