Abstract
Stable angina is a clinical syndrome characterized by oppressive pain or chest discomfort which presents with physical activity, exercise, or emotional stress, and disappears with rest or the administration of nitrates. The comparison between revascularization (surgical or PTCA) versus medical treatment, with regard to quality of life, has shown a significant benefit from the invasive strategy in diminishing angina and the need for anti-anginal medications, as well as in improving the capacity for exercise and quality of life. In the management of stable coronary disease, it is crucial to understand that today, medical treatment and any revascularization strategy are complementary, rather than competitive, treatments.
