Abstract
Knowing the basics of continuous renal replacement therapy can lead to a more comprehensive, rational approach and help in resolving any technical or mechanical problems that may arise during its use. This update of the state of the art attempt to take these aspects into account when making formulations in continuous renal replacement therapy in children, with an emphasis in the understanding of some physical concepts related to the equipment currently available. Additionally, the most common problems arising during continuous renal replacement therapy are reviewed and solutions are suggested, by understanding what happens in the extracorporeal circuit.
