Abstract
Vertebral artery dissection is among the most common causes of stroke in adults under 45 years of age. It is usually associated with trauma, but as diagnostic methods evolve, other aetiologies are described. Vertebral artery dissection can cause ischaemic stroke in the area around the posterior inferior cerebellar artery and anterior and posterior spinal arteries, affecting the brain stem, cerebellum, and even the spinal cord. The case is presented of a young adult patient who, after spontaneous dissection of the vertebral artery, suffered a cerebrovascular accident in the left cerebellum.
