Abstract
Ideally, antibiotic treatment should target identified pathogens. However, because many of these infections constitute a clinical emergency, it is recommended starting the patient on empirical antibiotherapy, which should be selected according to the most usual epidemiology of each case. Either emergency or elective surgical treatment might be necessary to control and/or cure the infection.
