Abstract
In non-repairable mitral valve disease, the ideal operation is to replace the valve with a biological or mechanical prosthesis. The knowledge of the surgical anatomy of the mitral valve and its anatomical relations, the different left atrial incisions, the surgical technique and its possible complications is of maximum importance.
